Oh gosh where do I start, there is only one way to think of this movie, Hell of a movie Not in a good way. this movie seems to be geared towards GenZ and does not seem to be relevant to any other generation. Which is tough for this film or really for any film. I truly feel this film could have had a ton of potential but it flopped in too many ways.

Lets start with the good, Fred Hechinger who played Jason played the role great. He was the the camp counselor that was way older then the rest and just socially awkward. He had an awkward run and just had a neurodiverse vibe in how he interacted with the other counselors. Even at one point he was being targeted and portraited at the killer for just being awkward and even tho he could escape he chose to go back and fight. All of this seemed like this was just how Fred was naturally. I truly think he was the best actor in this film. Besides for Fred all of the other actors got a B- in there acting.

The film plot had so much potential that I could have seen more movies made from it. Unfortunately it did not have the script to make it good. We all love a good slasher and this was a slasher by all meaning but it was to predictable and did not keep myself or John of the edge of our seats. The main plot was that these two counselor wanted to become famous by killing all of the other counselors. They did a good job at keeping the plot hidden until the 3rd act when they revealed it. That is one thing they did right with the script. I think the biggest problem I had with the script was it giving the comedy horror vibe but with just so poor jokes. Like me and John was doing more improvising for jokes that would have made it so much better.

On top of poor jokes there was the one counselor that defiantly was the funniest is just being the laughing stock and that was Jason. I do not know if he was intended to be so awkward that it was funny but that was the only thing that was in the ball part of being funny and it wasn’t that funny. The jokes almost always fell flat except for the few that made me smile but that is it.

The lighting was good, I was able to see everything while also not making it look like day at night. the sound was good quality, and so was the environment. It was filmed in a wooded area, and even though you never saw the lake by the cabins or another scene that was not a lake scene, you felt like the lake was there. The lake was only in two scenes but that was plenty to give it a summer camp in the mountains by a lake. There was another scene where Jason and another counselor that I can’t remember was running from the camp. The run seem like so far and like they were going to escape before Jason decided to head back. The overall use of the environment was great.

The overall fell of the film definitely felt like a low budget and rushed. I truly feel that if they spent more time on the script, it would have been so much better. I think a good script could have made the overall rating grow by half if not three quarters. I feel so underwhelmed and disappointed after seeing this I honestly was looking forward to get a refill on my drink. The popcorn and drink was the best part about seeing this movie.

Now this is the hard part what rating would I give this movie. If the jokes were better and if it kept me on the edge of my seat it would have been a solid 3.5/5 but because it did not do any of that I would only give it 1.5/5. I hate giving it that low but I must give my honest review, if I did not give my honest review I would be disappointing all of you.
